The Praise of the Father

Mt 11:25-30
[On one occasion,] 25Jesus said, “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. 26Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. 27All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. 28Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Reflection:

Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. These are among the warmest and most consoling words of Jesus in Scriptures. We all work to make ends meet. We are burdened by responsibilities, expectations, and worries. And rest is all we dream of and long for. Jesus promises that rest. The only catch word is COME. We need to go to Jesus for the rest only he can give.

His rest is not a beach in a faraway tropical island or a soft, cool bed in a first-class hotel. His rest is peace, being in harmony with everything around us; it is love, caring for the little ones around us; it is forgiveness, having a heart for everyone who falls short of our expectations. His rest is in our day-to-day labors and burdens, enabling us to go about them with grace and patience. Just go to Jesus.
