Galilean Women Follow Jesus

Lk 8:1-3
1[Jesus] journeyed from one town and village to another, preaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Accompanying him were the Twelve 2and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who provided for them out of their resources.

Reflection:

Accompanying him were the Twelve and some women. It is said that behind every successful man is a woman. This may be true even for Jesus. The point is not about the Twelve and these women. I believe that no one has become successful out of his effort alone. There are always people behind us, quietly supporting and fondly cheering us on. Only a liar and a humbug can boast he has reached the pinnacle of success entirely on his own. Even Jesus recognizes the people behind his ministry. While hanging on the cross, he acknowledges his disciple and his mother who have stayed with him until the end.

What matters in the end is not the conclusion of our life stories. What matters is how we have been touched and cared for by others throughout our lives. The care which we have given one another will live forever.

Name ten people you should be grateful for in your life.
