Lk 14:12-14
[On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees.] 12He said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. 13Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; 14blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
Reflection
You will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. Life is not only about compensation, recognition, and reward. There are good things we do simply because they are good and we enjoy doing them. The joy in doing them is itself the reward.
Basketball was our life in the seminary. There were 12 of us at the basketball court that afternoon. No one wanted to give in so that only ten could play the game. One of my friends suddenly complained about a bum stomach and left the court. I went after him. And we enjoyed a hearty snack in the canteen while our classmates had their basketball game.
It was one invitation of sacrifice from my friend that I will never forget!
Pray the rosary tonight with your family, to close the month of the rosary.
