Lk 21:34-36
[Jesus said to his disciples,] 34“Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise 35like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. 36Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Reflection:

The anxieties of daily life. Our daily concerns and struggles can drown and stifle us. Trying to make ends meet, rearing the kids and doing the household chores, beating work deadlines and target collections at the office, meeting other people’s expectations—all these add to our daily anxieties.

“Cast your care upon the Lord” (Ps 55:23). We are never alone when we face the unknown. After doing the best we can, we can rest and entrust the results to the Lord. We can only do so much. Leave some work for God to do. Let God be God in your life.

A friend lived a very long life. His secret? He bangs the door of his bedroom before he goes to sleep and prays, “Lord, I have finished work for the day. Now I’m going to rest and it’s your turn to work!” Then he sleeps soundly.

Do nothing this Saturday.
