Lk 8:4-15

Fruit born of perseverance: Luke’s allegorical interpretation of the parable reflects the various responses to the word that were taking place in his community. Evangelistic efforts were reaping various results in the first century. Luke’s interest and focus is on the fruit that is borne by those who hear the word of God and do it. These form the authentic family of Jesus (cf 8:21).
Some people believe they look and see and hear and understand, but they do not. The test of authenticity is hearing the word, embracing it with a good and generous heart, and bearing fruit through perseverance. Those who really look and see and hear and understand also act on the word of God.
