Lk 19:11-28
[or Mt 14:22-33]

Engage in trade: Luke’s response to those who think that the kingdom of God would appear immediately is a simple “Not yet.” The end of the age did not come with the Christ-events in Jerusalem. Therefore, followers of Jesus are to be faithful and productive servants while they wait for the fullness of the kingdom of God to appear and the end of the age to come.
Luke reminds the members of his community that they are accountable during the interim between Jesus’ Ascension and his return in glory. Followers of Jesus are stewards, who have been given a variety of resources. They will be judged according to their stewardship of these.
