Mk 2:23-28
23As [Jesus] was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath, his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain. 24At this the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?” 25He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry? 26How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?” 27Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. 28That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”

At this the Pharisees said to Jesus: The Pharisees never seem to see goodness in Jesus. They are always at his back, ready to snare him at the least mistake. They love performing this role which they play to the hilt until they have Jesus crucified.
We, too, can play the role of critic all our lives. We can choose to be sarcastic and cynical about everything and anything. We can become sour, grumpy old men or spinsters. Complaining has an expiration date! There has to come a time when we must learn to be grateful and appreciative of the good things that come our way in spite of the bad things that happen. We learn and let go and live life and be in it—this is the highest service we can do, above the observance of any law.
I was once complaining and crying to a friend about how life has been so unfair to me. I thought she would console me. Instead, she snapped back: “Will you please stop, Among Rau! God has given you so much already and you’re still a crybaby!”
