Jn 10:22-30
22The feast of the Dedication was then taking place in Jerusalem. It was winter. 23And Jesus walked about in the temple area on the Portico of Solomon. 24So the Jews gathered around him and said to him, “How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” 25Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me. 26But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep. 27My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

28I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. 29My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand. 30The Father and I are one.”

HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP US IN SUSPENSE? God keeps us in suspense every day of our lives. He paints a beautiful sunrise every morning and draws colorful skies at sunset. The flowers and the birds are sights to behold. The smile of a child eases pain. The laughter of children at play is music to a tired soul. A hug from a friend invigorates us. A twinkle in the eye of a loved one is the sweetest look one can ever see. A gesture of courtesy or a simple act of kindness is overwhelming. A surprise greeting from your boss or an unexpected hello from a companion soothes a tiring day. A power nap after lunch refreshes. A meal to satisfy the hunger of the soul, a warm blanket as we lie to sleep, a loving hand to hold—ah yes, the Lord surprises us every day in so many different ways and reveals his love for us.
But we barely notice. The Father’s finger is there, but we are not always attentive. We keep looking elsewhere or expecting something else. Sigh!
